Matt Johnson

Matt Johnson served as a soldier and Metropolitan Police officer for twenty-five years. He is a founder member and currently co-chair of Crime Cymru.

Published by Orenda and endorsed by both Peter James and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Matt’s debut novel, Wicked Game, was shortlisted for the CWA John Creasey Dagger in 2016. Amazon UK voted it the highest-rated debut novel of 2016. Deadly Game (2017) and End Game (2018), the final book in the Wicked Game trilogy, also drawing on Matt’s personal experience with both described by reviewers as displaying the same raw authenticity as his debut novel. 

Crow 27, Matt’s fourth novel was published in 2022 and, in 2023, his first non-fiction work No Ordinary Day was published by Ad Lib. No Ordinary Day was endorsed by Lee Child and reveals the truth behind the 1984 murder in London of WPC Yvonne Fletcher, one of the greatest tragedies in UK policing history. TV Drama rights have been acquired by Tiger Aspect, the makers of Peaky Blinders.
