Crime Cymru has three main aims:
To support crime writers in and of Wales
To help in the development of new Welsh crime writing talent
To promote Wales, Welsh culture and Welsh crime writing in particular, to the wider world.
For the first three years of its existence Crime Cymru concentrated on the first of those aims, providing a supportive community of crime writers through various means, online and in the real world. Then, in April 2020, the membership decided to buck the prevailing Covid 19 gloom and make a start on aims two and three.
So, in 2021 Crime Cymru will launch its own first crime novel competition and, in 2022 it will hold its first national crime fiction festival – Gŵyl CRIME CYMRU Festival 2022.
Though there are more than a dozen crime fiction festivals in England, five in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland, until now Wales has not had its own annual crime fiction festival and Crime Cymru is determined that it will be one which all crime fiction fans want to come to.
With the support of the Aberystwyth Town Council and various businesses in town, the first Gŵyl CRIME CYMRU will be held in Aberystwyth over the early May bank holiday weekend – April 30th – May 2nd, 2022.
For more information, see the October edition of the Aberystwyth EGO (p 20) and have a look at the information on the other pages of this Crime Cymru website.
Very much looking forward to this.
Think I will have a bash at writing for the competition too.
Keep up the good work 👍🏽🏴
